Exception freight · Worked example

“Pending” is not a complete exception handoff

Packaging, label, and dimension issues need different close conditions, while every piece retains an action, owner, and update time.

Nine pieces, three different actions

Among 160 pieces, 9 are exceptions: 4 with damaged wrap, 3 with a missing label and 2 with dimensions that differ from the booking record.

The first group needs a packaging decision, the second needs traceable identification, and the third needs another loading check.

Record the owner as well as the status

Every piece retains a photograph, last scan, required action, next owner and update time. Pieces in the same category do not share a single completion flag.

An exception with no owner or decision 45 minutes before cutoff does not enter the confirmed loading list.

A close condition is specific

Rewrapped freight needs a review state; a replacement label must reconnect to the booking; a dimensional change needs a fresh loading decision. “Handled” alone leaves the item open.

This example does not state whether any of the exception pieces were eventually loaded.

State after a departure change

When an exception moves to a later departure, the original record says it has been removed and the new record references the same photographs and handling decision. Changing only the departure number leaves two versions that both appear active.

An owner change also carries a timestamp, so the system does not continue to point at the colleague who already handed the piece over.
